A creative agency based out of Electric Wharf in Coventry are preparing to celebrate 20 years of design – after landing two local contracts during lockdown.
The thriving Jade Studio work on design projects nationally and locally, having been founded two decades ago in Coventry.
Starting out as a ‘two-man-band’, the company has grown from strength to strength out of a spare bedroom, now as a team of eight having worked with iconic national brands, such as Wembley Stadium, Edgbaston Cricket Ground and the NHS – and even played an integral role in helping to bring the Olympics to the Ricoh Arena in 2010.
Most of us will come into contact with the agency’s work daily without realisation, the team having worked closely on much of the city centre’s branding, elements of rugby club Wasps’ design and local educational institutions.
More recently, the studio has been involved in Coventry Glides, the UK City of Culture Trust’s first major event bringing an open-air ice rink to the ruins of St Michael’s Cathedral, and Visit Coventry’s Welcome Back to Coventry campaign
Jason Dickens, from the studio, said: “While we operate right across the country, it is always rewarding to work with firms who call Coventry their home.
Over lockdown, the studio signed two new clients based in Coventry – a pedicab operator and a new micro-pub – and will assist both with design and messaging.
Jason said it is “much more exciting” when working with local start-ups, such as their two new clients, as the agency get a chance to play a key role in their development.
Despite the troubles presented by the coronavirus pandemic, the studio has been able to adapt and continue to provide its services and sign new clients; lockdown even gave the agency itself time to reflect and improve its in-house abilities, Jason explained.
Though, Jason admitted, “we are really looking ahead to next year and hopefully some normality.”
The pandemic also provided the agency with the chance to help out those who were especially struggling by working pro bono with the Coventry organisation Highly Sprung, a leading physical theatre company who do great work with young people in the city.
The studio’s team helped design new brands corresponding to the four different age groups that Highly Sprung teach, from the very young dancers to the more experienced dancers aged 16 plus.
Matthew East, from the agency, concluded: “We are really proud to be marking our 20th year. Although it’s been an extremely challenging year, there’s [sic] exciting times ahead. We’re really looking forward to the future and […] Coventry’s resurgence”.
