With a national lockdown now underway in England until the end of November, an abundance of Coventry businesses have been forced to close their doors for four-weeks.
Though many have closed entirely and rely on the extended furlough scheme, other businesses are remaining partially open with delivery, takeaway and click and collect services – while some businesses have been given the green light to remain open as normal.
Essentials businesses including supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations, post offices and banks can all open as normal.
Hardware stores, dry cleaners and garden centres have also been added to the list of approved businesses classified as essential.
Businesses that provide services, rather than goods, such as accountants, solicitors and estate agents, are not required to close either.
At a local level, while many retailers in Coventry city centre have been forced to close, a few remain open as normal or with reduced opening times, these include:
- Boots, Lower Precinct
- Home Bargains, Lower Precinct
- Iceland, Queen Victoria Rd
- Marks and Spencers, Upper Precinct
- Post Office, West Orchards Shopping Centre
- Poundland, Market Way
- Sainsbury’s, Trinity St
- Superdrug, Hertford St and Market Way
- Tesco, Shelton Square
- TJ Hughes, Lower Precinct
- Wilko, Broadgate
In the Lower Precinct, The Entertainer, Next, LUSH, GAME and Waterstones all have click and collect services in place on certain dates, while Pizza Hut and Caffé Nero are operating takeaway and delivery services.
Elsewhere in the city centre, many eateries are still open accepting takeaway orders or online deliveries, these include:
- Cafe Italia
- Cafe Morso
- Cha Time
- Esquires Coffee
- Heavenly Desserts
- McDonald’s – Crossing Cheaping
- Nando’s, Playwrights
- Wok 2 Walk
The car park at the Sky Dome remains open, as do most operated by the City Council, however the Lower Precinct’s is closed.
It is understood that the NCP Belgrade Plaza car park is open.
